Whether you are an entrepreneur just starting out or looking to gain skills for a business you already have, the 12-week Startup School provides foundational learning that is right for any skill level or background – at no cost to you.
Sessions will be held once a week, where you can absorb the topic of the week, discuss ideas, and ask questions to live business advisors, all in Spanish! Some of the topics to be covered include:
- Choosing the right business
- Creating a business plan
- Business organization: LLC, partnership, sole proprietorship, which is right for you?
- Licenses and permits
- Financing
- E-commerce
- Marketing
- Negotiation
In addition to the weekly topics, participants will be able to schedule individual consultations with business advisors for personalized assistance.
- Program Introduction (March 14, 2024): Sets the stage for an enriching learning experience. Participants receive an overview of the program, its expectations, and meet the experienced facilitators, fostering a foundation for networking and collaboration.
- Choosing the Right Business (March 21, 2024): Shares a step-by-step approach to selecting the best business, identifying common mistakes, and providing tools for maximizing success.
- The Business Plan (March 28, 2024): Participants learn about the key elements of a business plan, its uses, and best practices for writing one.
- Freelance, Independent, and Home-Based Business (April 11, 2024): Explores businesses that don’t rely on physical space, focusing on freelance, independent, and home-based businesses. Includes a readiness checklist.
- Business Organization (April 18, 2024 - Skipping April 4th): Covers decisions on partnership, business organization types, and necessary professional resources.
- Licenses and Permits (April 25, 2024): Understand the need for business-specific licenses and permits and the importance of legal advice.
- Financing the Business (May 2, 2024): Learn about financing sources and how to manage them.
- Accounting and Cash Flow (May 9, 2024): Understand financial tracking, accounting, and cash flow management.
- Microfinance for Entrepreneurs (May 16, 2024): Discuss microfinance as a funding option and the importance of professional advice.
- Ecommerce (May 23, 2024): Learn about setting up an ecommerce presence and selling through various online channels.
- Marketing (May 30, 2024): Understand market research, business naming, traditional and digital marketing strategies.
- Communication Tools (June 6, 2024): Overview of communication forms, tools, and resources essential for businesses.
- Develop Negotiating Skills (June 13, 2024): Understand the importance of negotiating skills and strategies for effective negotiation.
