County grant provides much-needed boost to local salon

Serenity Salon & Spa in June 2020 was awarded a $5,000 grant during the first phase of the Skagit County Small Business Grant Program, funded through the CARES Act and administered by EDASC. We are profiling some of the businesses who have received local COVID-19 relief grants in order to demonstrate why it is important to support and continue to strengthen the incredible business ecosystem that exists within Skagit County.
About Serenity Salon & Spa
Serenity Salon and Spa, located in Burlington, carries an extensive retail line including makeup, skincare and haircare products. They specialize in Goldwell hair color services and have experienced and talented hair stylists.
Co-owner Amber Guidry said Skagit County is the perfect location to own their business.
"Its location makes it a short drive from many cities so you can draw a larger and more diverse client base," said Guidry, who co-owns the business with her husband Jason Guidry. "Our climate doesn’t have the extreme temperatures that many other states have and we have some of the most beautiful areas to live and play. Our clients are the most supportive and amazing people to know and work with. Some of the kind notes and messages that were sent to us during the shutdown were so inspirational and sometimes just what you needed to hear."
How they used grant funds
The Guidry's sole source of income is their business, said Amber Guidry, so receiving the grant funds was a big boost.
“We’ve been open over 10 years and have a very solid and successful business," she said. "But being closed for three months was almost like starting over with a new business. We wanted to do it correctly and in the safest way possible for our customers and ourselves while making upgrades and changes for safety. These funds helped us to do so.”
The grant also helped the Guidrys diversify their retail lines to offer new pandemic-related items. They now carry moisturizing olive oil based hand soap, hand sanitizer, hand and body lotion, and more.
It’s important to support local businesses
“Please continue to purchase retail and come to us for services," she said. "Every purchase helps your local business and the county you live in."
She encouraged existing clients and new ones to visit Serenity Salon & Spa to be pampered and for overall wellness. They have taken steps to ensure the safety of their clients and staff. “We take safety and sanitation seriously. We not only meet the guidelines, but we exceed them.”
