Skagit County Maritime Symposium postponed
Tuesday, March 10, 2020
ANACORTES – Due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19, EDASC is postponing its Skagit County Maritime Symposium originally set for March 25 at the Center of Excellence for Marine Manufacturing & Technology.
A new date will be announced within the coming weeks.
Skagit County declared a state of emergency Tuesday regarding the COVID-19 outbreak, issuing new recommendations.
Among the recommendations, the county recommended postponing all nonessential gathering over 10 people. For that reason, according to EDASC CEO John Sternlicht, the decision became more evident.
“To stem the exponential spread of this virus, we all need to follow the directions of our public health experts,” Sternlicht said. “People have put a great deal of work into events that are being cancelled or postponed. We will, wherever possible, provide that content once this crisis subsides>”
The symposium, organized by EDASC, would be the second in a series of recurring cluster meetings designed to advance the local maritime sector and interact with the state maritime cluster. Current plans are for the June symposium to focus on legislative developments and the September symposium to highlight workforce issues.
