Second Skagit County Maritime Symposium to focus on workforce

ANACORTES – Maritime companies from Skagit County are invited to the Skagit County Maritime Symposium from 3 to 5 p.m. March 25 at the Center of Excellence for Marine Manufacturing & Technology to discuss issues and hear from educators and workforce development experts.

The symposium, organized by EDASC, is the second in a series of recurring cluster meetings designed to advance the local maritime sector and interact with the state maritime cluster while sustaining meaningful dialogue. The first symposium was held Nov. 13 in La Conner.

“The Skagit County maritime cluster asserts our place in the statewide maritime ecosystem,” EDASC CEO John Sternlicht said. “By planning and being intentional, Skagit County will have a better shot at both funding and international opportunities.”

This symposium will focus on workforce issues affecting the sector and feature workforce experts from throughout the Pacific Northwest. Register for the no-cost event here.

Speakers include those from the Port of Anacortes, Northwest Career & Technical Academy, Northwest Education Service District 189, Skagit Valley College, and the Workforce Training & Education Coordinating Board. There will be time for networking.

Resource organizations will also be tabling including Skagit STEM Network, Impact Washington and the Northwest Workforce Council.
