MOUNT VERNON – EDASC and the Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) hosted the Skagit County Meet-the-Buyers Event on Dec. 10 at the Skagit Transit Station, helping connect dozens of businesses with government purchasing departments.
The event featured rotating 20-minute roundtable sessions with local and regional government purchasing departments, providing the opportunity for small-business owners to learn how to get their foot in the door of government contracting.
Buyers included Port of Skagit, Port of Anacortes, Cascades Job Corps College & Career Academy, Skagit Transit Authority and the State Department of Enterprise Services.
EDASC, PTAC and the Small Business Development Center were also on hand to offer business assistance and resources. The State Office of Minority & Women’s Business Enterprises was also available to provide guidance on certification.
About 50 businesses from throughout the county and state attended the event.
Brandon Hemingway, owner of manufacturer MFG Precision based in Sumner, said the event helped him better understand government opportunities.
“I can definitely say I walked out of there better than before,” Hemingway said. “Getting to know the actual buyers is huge. I like the possibilities and I will definitely be following up with the contacts I made.”
Muthusamy Gurusamy, President of IT company BSG Solutions, came from Seattle to attend the event. He came to learn about small business support services and how to gain government contracts.
“It was the perfect event for what we were looking for,” Gurusamy said. “I made some good connections.”
If you’d like to learn more about how to procure government contracting, schedule an advising session with PTAC Counselor and Small Business Liaison Lisa Lagerstrom at firstname.lastname@example.org or 425-248-4223. PTAC is available at EDASC the second Friday of every month.
EDASC and PTAC also plan on hosting future government procurement networking events.
