In her position as the Director of Leadership Skagit, Kate Bennett is responsible for the program’s ongoing development, delivery and direction. Prior to joining the EDASC Foundation as the director of its community leadership program, Kate served in executive positions with the American Red Cross, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Washington and Alaska and the Island Hospital Foundation.
For most of her thirty-plus year career in non-profit management, Kate served with the American Red Cross in Washington State and Hawaii. As Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross for the state of Hawaii and the American Territories of the Pacific, she was responsible for the management, delivery and funding of Red Cross health, safety and disaster services throughout Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.
The National American Red Cross twice honored Kate as a recipient of its highest honor, the Tiffany Award for Management. Kate taught “Ethical Decision Making” and “Frontline Leadership” nationally for the American Red Cross and was responsible for coaching new Red Cross executives in the organization’s Star Track program.
Kate is in her first term as a trustee of Skagit Valley College, having been appointed by Governor Inslee. She also serves as SVC’s representative on the statewide Awards Committee of the Washington Association of Community and Technical Colleges. A self professed leadership junkie, Kate is passionate about “engaging and encouraging” community leadership and was recognized as the 2014 SWAN Woman of the Year for her role in mentoring others.
