SUMMARY

The Economic Development Alliance of Skagit County, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit corporation that implements the economic development program for all of Skagit County, is seeking a Program Manager for its Leadership Skagit Program offered in partnership with Skagit Valley College, a widely respected experiential leadership development program in its 16th year. The ideal candidate has at least a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and 5+ years leadership experience. You will be an integral part of the EDASC team and will be responsible for the operation of the Leadership Skagit program year-round in collaboration with the Curriculum Manager from Skagit Valley College and an experienced all-volunteer Facilitation Support Team.  Other primary responsibilities include the recruitment of participants, community volunteers, coordinated fundraising, and programmatic planning in collaboration with a dedicated cadre of alumni volunteers, and of course, EDASC management and staff.  This is a part-time, hourly position, and the hours, benefits, and duties are negotiable within the limitations of budget and organizational needs.

The successful candidate will possess the passion, communications skill and experience to excite broad support for a vision of the program’s future, will be an EDASC team player and inspirational motivator in the community. This person must have the experience, confidence, and presence to earn attention and respect on a professional and personal level, and be passionately convinced of (and able to effectively articulate) the value of developing individual, business and community leadership that is informed, equitable, inclusive, diverse, and connected through shared learning experiences.

JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • The right candidate will be able to articulate their vision of leadership and engender cooperation from volunteers, partners, community leaders, and others.
  • You will have a proven ability to set priorities, achieve agreed critical goals, manage conflict, listen to and balance many voices with insight and diplomacy. Ultimately, you must be able to take personal responsibility and yet share credit for success while becoming a collaborative community builder who advances values of diversity and equity in organizations and the community.
  • Community Capacity Building: While working under the supervision of the EDASC CEO and collaboratively with other staff members, you will continue to support and develop EDASC’s vision, mission, values, goals, and operating policies in order to assure the on-going review, interface and refinement between the EDASC strategic plan and the workings and activities of Leadership Skagit.
  • You will be comfortable with public speaking and display a consistent high-quality professional image and messaging capability aimed at external audiences, promoting the Leadership Skagit program and EDASC through coordinated media, press releases, social media, an online presence and advertising (print and electronic).
  • As part of this position requires fundraising specifically for the Leadership Skagit program and generally for EDASC, you must be an experienced and successful fundraiser with impeccable integrity, highly honed listening skills, empathy, and optimistic yet realistic perseverance.
  • The type of candidate who would find this position challenging and inspirational, would be a person who is not afraid to break with the status quo and innovate, likes change and is adept at telling the right story at the right time and can listen, is donor- and customer-focused and results-oriented.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Ongoing recruiting of program participants ensuring program fit for attendee, community representation, and class diversity in support of the overall mission.
  2. To deliver a high quality program experience, you will work collaboratively with the Curriculum Program Manager to recruit, inspire and lead cadre of alumni volunteers:
    1. Program Facilitators
    2. Team Coaches
    3. Challenge Day Chairpersons and Committees
    4. Program Committees
  3. Lead, coordinate, and execute successful fundraising efforts through sponsorship, grants, and donations to ensure sustainability, community support, and long-term viability of the program.
  4. Ensure ongoing engagement with program alumni.
  5. Plan and execute Leadership Skagit program events for current participants and alumni.
  6. To promote the program, garner community support and funding, recruit volunteers, and engage with the greater Skagit County, you will attend and participate in numerous internal and external meetings and events, some of which will occur before or after normal business hours.
  7. In partnership with the Curriculum Manager:
    1. Participate in collaborative programmatic planning
    2. Deliver program learning experiences
    3. Generate materials needed for Leadership Skagit program delivery including but not limited to, agendas, event programs, and facilitator and coaching materials.
    4. Assess learning outcomes and alignment of curriculum with community needs
  8. Lead and direct the Program Support Coordinator to prepare materials for program delivery.
  9. In coordination with CEO:
    1. Prepare and share reports to evaluate level of  impact and adjust approach to improve performance and results
    2. Plan, record and report community outreach activities which support Leadership Skagit program objectives.
      • Set goals, track and communicate activities to appropriate entities (CEO/staff/board) through the maintenance of a log
      • Review, coordinate, and document fundraising objectives and successes.
    3. Appraise the current state and future focus for the Skagit Leadership
  10. In coordination with Director of Finance and Administration:
    1. Ensure compliance with Non-Profit accounting standards
    2. Create and manage an annual program budget
    3. Document expenditures and review revenues including sponsorships, grants, and donations
    4. Manage contracts
    5. Obtain and ensure compliance with appropriate grants
    6. Coordinate tuition and scholarships for participants
  11. In coordination with Communication/Community Engagement Specialist update and publish relevant information to promote goals and objectives of ongoing projects including marketing EDASC and other related activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

      Above all, we are looking for a people-person with a confirmed record of accomplishment in program management, volunteer management, fundraising and developing and maintaining cooperative, professional relationships with other employees, management, business owners, municipal leaders, and outside organizations! The ability to establish rapport and put people at ease is essential.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Strong, comprehensive understanding of effective techniques to facilitate adult learning and leadership capacity.
  2. Familiarity with local, state, and federal level resources as well as the assumption of responsibility for driving the desired behaviors and mindset shifts and talent—for performance at all levels.
  3. Excellent oral communication skills, including ease and proficiency with public speaking.
  4. Excellent written communication skills, including writing, proofreading and editing, etc.
  5. Strong capabilities in marketing and for recruitment of businesses and investors.
  6. Ability to use computerized information/software relevant to the position (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Neon CRM, Sage Accounting, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter).
  7. Knowledge of social media tools and practices.
  8. Comfortable working in a sometimes fast-paced, unpredictable environment.

 

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required, ideally in a related field, and graduate degree preferred.
  2. Participation in Leadership Skagit or comparable Leadership Development program is strongly preferred.
  3. Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a leadership capacity should confirm the candidate’s ability to deal effectively with diverse populations, and evidence demonstrable success when working with a large network of volunteers to advance an organization’s mission.
  4. Evidence demonstrating, through multiple examples, successful development and maintenance of relationships with business, government, higher education, philanthropic, not-for-profit, volunteers, and community stakeholders.
  5. Familiarity with Skagit County, its communities, and industry sectors are highly desired.
  6. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with the ability to travel throughout Skagit County.
